Scrap Vehicle Tire Disposal
When you sell cars for cash, often the junk car buyer will have difficulty with disposing of certain items of the scrap vehicle. We offer scrap a car for cash services and know this problem all too well. Those who buy junk cars certainly are aware of how problematic old scrap car tires can be. If the tires are not worthy of being resold, then someone who buys junk cars must find a solution. A company in Texas may have the answer for recycling these tires.
Megan Greenwalt posted an article on waste360.com titled ‘Turning Waste Tires into Energy’ on March 4, 2015 with the following highlights: “Global Clean Energy (GCE) is a Texas-based company that focuses on technologies to convert waste into energy, a process the company refers to as Reforming Environmental Salvage into Clean Usable Energy (RESCUE). GCE is in the market of the end-of-life plastic, tires & metal recovery. In October 2014 they secured a supply agreement of tire chips with Pittsburgh-based Liberty Tire Recycling, tire recycler.
Waste360 recently sat down with the GCE’s CDO Steven Mann to discuss the state of tire waste-to-energy projects in the U.S. First, waste tires are collected and shredded down to about ¾ of an inch and de-wired. The tire chips are inserted into the pyrolysis system. Pyrolysis occurs when you heat tire chips in the absence of oxygen so there is no combustion; this allows the tire chips to be heated without burning. When you indirectly heat tire chips to 450 degrees Celsius, you break down the hydrocarbons to form synthesis gas (syngas) and solids (carbon). The carbon is micro-milled to a fine powder and pelletized to create tire-derived carbon black to replace crude oil derived carbon black for pigmentation and lower grade rubber products. The syngas is condensed into a Pyroil, which is then upgraded to a D975 ultra-low sulfur diesel. Any syngas that is not condensed into Pyroil, is recirculated back into the burners so the gas produced by the pyrolysis system is used–so there is very little waste.
The challenges are securing the proper long-term tire feedstock agreements, choosing a proven technology, placing the system on the correct site & securing agreements for the resultant fuel, energy and carbon. GCE has overcome each of these challenges. The project will keep more than 1.6 million waste tires out of landfills the first year with that number doubling to 3.2 million waste tires per year; utilizing proven pyrolysis technology that has more than 20 systems deployed over the last 10 years. The infrastructure necessary to complete the project include a 125,000 SF building, access to highways, a rail spur, water, natural gas & electricity. The location lends itself to successful permitting.” The complete article is available here:

We certainly commend Mr. Mann and GCE for pursuing this endeavor. Keeping such a significant quantity of scrap tires out of landfills is a major achievement. We hope to see other similar ventures in the auto recycling industry and feel that governmental entities should consider funding such worthwhile projects.
